Away to Yonder

The daisies and buttercups she’d spent so much time twisting into her hair yesterday dangled downward now, bits of pollen spilling over her freckles and smearing onto the pillow. Willow traced the path they left with her fingertips as carefully as if they were made of fairy dust. It hadn’t exactly been like she’d dreamed.  Wood clearings on a freshly closed hellmouth weren’t really the stuff wedding pictures were made of, but then who has time for photo albums when you’re on the road anyways? Willow eased one of the flowers out of her hair and smelled it, a wide, sloppy grin on her face. It’d still been beautiful. She turned the flower in her hand, twisting her wrist this way and then the other. She summoned the ribbons that had twined around it in her mind, how hot they’d felt on her skin, how they’d complimented her ring (would Faith notice if she put it on the other finger sometimes?), and the way they’d tickled when she took them off. It’d been beautiful.

Willow rolled over and brushed the buttercup in her hand across Faith’s face. “Ready to wake up, sleepy Slayer?” Her voice was soft and scratchy. “I’ll make us pancakes before we go…”

Faith grunted, something in the happy category that probably meant ‘you can wake me up when the pancakes actually get made’. Either that or ‘I’m asleep and I don’t know what you’re saying.’

Willow wrinkled her nose and kissed her forehead before slipping out of bed, leaving a trail of flowers behind her. She picked up a shawl from the chair and threw it around her body before sliding into the kitchen. Her toes curled at the feeling of the cold tile. She thought about hunting down a pair of socks, but her bags were already stuffed and with her dumb old luck, they’d probably be at the bottom somewhere and she’d have to pack all over again. Thanks but no thanks.

They hadn’t been too specific with the itinerary when they’d decided to take a vacation (not a honeymoon, a ‘just defeated the big bad and now we’re really tired’ ordinary vacation).  Dawn and Wesley had their number in case anything hit the fan while they were away, although she told Dawn about half a dozen times that it was for talking and normal catching up uses too. As the pancakes sizzled on the pan, Willow thought of places they might go. Boston had been nice. They’d been happy there. Or happy, considering.  She took a handful of chocolate chips and sprinkled them over the rising batter. Maybe they’d get a boat. Sailing wouldn’t be too hard, would it? They had demos online and maybe some good old magic could help? There were worse ways to use up her energies.

She flipped the pancakes over, one by one,  and piled them on the biggest plate she could find. Faith would have to come down and make her own coffee later. Breakfast in bed for the newly handfasted heroes had no patience for coffee makers, not even their Keurig. Between balancing the plate, forks, syrup, and raspberries, Willow’s shawl fell off one shoulder and she greeted Faith looking more like a sleepy-eyed ginger Venus than the pinup homemaker she’d been going for.

“I have food,” she cooed. “And I look really hot right now.” She nudged Faith with her foot, smiling.

“What else is new?” Faith teased. Her eyes were still closed against the sunlight but she batted Willow’s foot away with ease.

“What if I said I was extra hot? I’m rocking a sultry pout and everything!”

If there had been a sultry pout on Willow’s face, it melted away into a fit of giggles the moment Faith looked up at her. She bit her lip and tried to unearth it again as she was pulled back onto the bed. “Careful now,” she said, raising her brow. “Don’t wanna make me spill. And,” she smirked, “we still have to sail away to yonder today.”

Faith gave her a look.

“You and me. Willow and Faith: Next stop…?”

Faith answered her by putting the plate on her lap and pulling Willow close. “Just s’long as we hit the road soon.”

“Yeah. We will.” Soon.

Amber is a very unique and versatile substance. It is fossilized resin, having large, varying degrees of age. Magically, amber is associated with the sun, protection, fertility and many differing deities. For magical purposes, amber was burned as an incense in ancient Egypt and India to promote fertility and aid in protection from negativity.  Lithuanian tribes in ancient times would burn the incense to drive away evil spirits and to aid in the growth of their children.
In many countries, amber has also been coveted for it’s numerous healing abilities. These include aiding sore muscles, an upset stomach, detoxification, blood circulation, and to improve kidney, liver and heart function. Roman peasant women were often found wearing amulets of amber, not only for decoration but to relieve them of sore throats or glands. Amber’s unique healing and magical abilities have been recognized and put into practice since ancient times, and it offers us the same ability to incorporate this fossil into our healthy and magical lives.Source: http://www.academia.edu/241848/Amber_in_the_Ancient_Near_East

The soup is consumed while hot.  Tonic wine made from elecampane is obtained from 250g of elecampane root macerated in one liter of wine. It is then left to sit for 8 days, while being mixed daily. It is recommended in cases of mild cough bouts.  One can boil the roots or rhizomes of these herbal plants in order to use them as a vegetable substitute. Sometimes, they are peeled and eaten raw as well as having also been used to flavor schnapps.Suggestions: Elecampane ground together with mistletoe and vervain can make a powerful love powder.Hazards and Precautions: Do not use during pregnancy or nursing, since large doses can cause vomiting, diarrhea, spasms, and symptoms of paralysis.  Elecampane may interfere with existing treatment for hypoglycemic and antihypertensive treatments.  Elecampane can cause allergic reactions to people who are allergic to plants belonging to the sunflower family. Diabetes patients should also avoid using this herb.
